After a successful, and first, North American Tour run back in 2022, JUNNY is back in the US for his “dopamine” tour, named after his most recent EP. The first concert I ever photographed was JUNNY during that same tour two years ago, so to be back here at the same venue in 2024 was a full circle moment for me. With only ten tour stops, I’m so glad he kept Houston, TX, on the list to share his new music with us.
Before JUNNY made his appearance, he gave the stage to two talented openers, Minh and Hohyun, who are both Houston natives! And that’s what made this show so special already—how it paid homage to Houston artists. Though Minh never mentioned where he was based to the crowd, Hohyun did, and it fired everyone up, knowing that they were there not only to support JUNNY but H-town talent. These artists were also great picks overall, as they really complimented JUNNY’s discography with similar lo-fi, R&B, and pop sounds.
JUNNY opened up the show with one of his recent songs called RUSH, which I felt was the perfect choice. RUSH is his most streamed song off of his recent EP dopamine that he dropped in June earlier this year, so there was no question that everyone in the crowd knew the lyrics, plus the title really does speak for itself. You could feel the “RUSH” of the fans and JUNNY’s energy throughout the audience.
JUNNY is an incredible performer and really knows how to own the stage, even if it’s just him singing—no dancers, no fancy backdrop, just him. If you attended one of his concerts without knowing a single thing about him, I bet you would’ve had the best time because his stage presence is truly captivating. I saw it firsthand, watching the security guard on the side smile and bob his head all throughout JUNNY’s set. Not to mention that his discography is just hit after hit.
JUNNY has always been one of my favorite artists because not only is he incredibly talented from his singing, songwriting, producing, and stage presence, but he’s down to earth and humble. I had the pleasure of meeting him after the show, and the way he greeted and talked with photographers and street team members really showed how much he appreciates his supporters. Even though the tour isn’t over yet, I’m already eagerly waiting for him to come back to Houston so I can see him live again.
