Ever since I first heard the track Go Outside, I’ve been eager to see Cults perform live, drawn in by their unique, haunting style. Calling this concert a priority would be an understatement—few bands in the indie genre today compare to the New York duo.
Comprised of Madeline Follin and Brian Oblivion, Cults has been making music together since 2010, amassing an impressive discography, with their self-titled debut being especially familiar to music fans. In 2024, they released To the Ghosts, which took them on tour, including a sold-out stop at the Bronze Peacock room at the House of Blues.
The show began with a captivating projector visual that set the tone for the night, drawing everyone into a psychedelic-like world. What made the concert so compelling was how Madeline’s signature high-pitched vocals put me in a trance, whether it was during familiar songs like Bad Things or less-known tracks like Cry Baby and Gilded Lily. Her presence, along with the band’s, was impossible to look away from. The set concluded with TV Dream and the immensely popular Always Forever leaving the audience more than satisfied.
This show moved me in a way that felt distinct from other recent concerts; it was a hypnotic experience. I’m incredibly grateful to have finally seen Cults perform live, and I can’t wait to see them again soon.
