Many may know Alaska 5000 from the fifth season of RuPaul’s Drag Race as well as the All Stars season 2 winner. Not only is she a drag entertainer, but she’s also a phenomenal artist. I didn’t know exactly what to expect from the “Valentine’s Day is Terrible" show, but I knew it would be entertaining. Alaska 5000 did not disappoint and she showed how she is the epitome of charisma, uniqueness, nerve and talent.
A local Houston drag queen named Blackberri opened the show and performed a few lip syncs to popular songs including some hits from Lizzo. Blackberri spoke to the audience about the current season of Drag Race and applauded a contestant from Houston, Mistress Isabelle Brooks. Alaska’s “Valentine’s Day is Terrible" show began with Alaska singing comedic song covers and the venue filled with laughter. The show was packed with comedy, skits, impersonations, costume changes and of course, live singing.
During the last half of the show, Alaska told the audience that this was her first time performing this show and that she would open up the rest of the show for song requests! Alaska performed tons of songs from older albums and even her newest album Red 4 Filth with songs like Red, Beautiful, XOXOY2K and 22. It was evident that Alaska wanted everyone in the audience to feel seen and appreciated as she jumped off the stage and performed amidst her fans. At one point she even made her way to the top of the balcony! By the end, Alaska humbly thanked everyone for showing up and supporting her throughout the years.
